About
Liz Zachary
I love working as a freelance copy-editor and thoroughly enjoy getting stuck into a new subject matter and ensuring that the text is clear and suitable for the intended audience. Having worked in a publishing environment I understand that an immense amount of work goes into researching and writing a book or report. Copy-editing ensures that none of the value from the months (if not longer) of hard work undertaken to get a publication to final draft status is lost. I take my role and responsibility very seriously and pride myself on being thorough, methodical and always meeting deadlines.
Experience
My first job after graduating university in 2003 was as editorial assistant for a construction magazine publisher. I went on to work for charities and local government organisations in London and Sussex, as well as for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris. My roles in these organisations involved writing and editing a range of documents, including case studies, articles, publications, newsletters and web content. Please see my CV attached for further details.
Since becoming a freelance copy-editor in 2015 I have worked on over 100 publications that total over 10 000 pages. Links to some of these can be found here.
Qualifications and training
I trained in journalism with the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) and received a distinction for their postgraduate magazine journalism diploma in 2005. I also received a 2:1 in media and sociology from the University of Leeds in 2003.
I am a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, a non-profit body promoting excellence in English language editing.
