Experience

I have been working in roles that involve proofreading, copy-editing and writing since 2003, and have been a freelance copy-editor since 2015. I have particular experience in the subject areas of education policy, children's health and well-being, and public governance. I have worked on a range of documents, from 600 word blog posts to 200 page technical reports. Most documents I work on are written by multiple authors of different nationalities. I am therefore very experienced in ensuring that messages and styles are consistent across an entire document.

Below are links to a selection of documents I have copy-edited:

  • Exploring the ethical dimensions of sequencing newborns’ genomes: Rapid literature and evidence reviewRAND Europe, 2022
Interest in genetic testing has significantly increased since the mapping of the human genome in 2003, offering great insight into disease risk. National Health Service (NHS) Genomic Medicine Centres have now been rolled out across England and offer tests from the NHS National Genomic Test Directory, with partner organisations in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.94 This has increased the range of tests available and made genetic tests more accessible. The current focus of these tests, and the 100,000 Genomes Project led by Genomics England, is rare diseases and cancer, and the primary objective is to reduce diagnosis time and inform treatment decisions and estimates of prognosis.252 As part of this investment in incorporating genomics into clinical practice, Genomics England, in partnership with NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE/I), are conducting a research programme to investigate the use of whole genome sequencing (WGS) within a newborn screening context, as well as for wider genomics research to support new diagnostics and treatment for rare genetic conditions.

  • Higher Education in Mexico: Labour Market Relevance and Outcomes, OECD Publishing, 2019
Half a million higher education graduates enter the labour market every year in Mexico. While their labour market outcomes are considerably better on average than those of upper secondary education graduates, some higher education graduates face periods of inactivity and unemployment. Many graduates who find work end up being over-qualified or working in the informal sector. This report finds that the Mexican higher education system needs to be better aligned with the labour market to help students develop the skills employers seek.

  • Promoting the Digital Transformation of African Portuguese-Speaking Countries and Timor-Leste, OECD Publishing 2018
The public sectors of African Portuguese-speaking countries and Timor-Leste (PALOP-TL) have made significant progress in mobilising digital technologies to promote internal efficiency, simplify government procedures and improve the delivery of public services. Nevertheless,  fully harnessing these technologies to improve growth, opportunities for income and employment, and public service delivery requires a more profound shift from efficiency-driven to citizen-driven approaches. This cross-country review of the digital transformation of the public sectors in Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe and Timor-Leste reviews progress towards digital government and suggests strategies for enabling more effective, collaborative and sustainable digital government policies and approaches in PALOP-TL countries.

  • Higher Education in Norway: Labour Market Relevance and OutcomesOECD Publishing 2018
The higher education system in Norway generally produces graduates with good skills and labour market outcomes. This success can be largely attributed to Norway’s robust and inclusive labour market and recent higher education reforms to improve quality. However, some Norwegian students have poor labour market outcomes and past success is no guarantee of future success, especially as the Norwegian economy upskills and diversifies. This report provides advice and recommendations to improve the labour market relevance and the outcomes of higher education in Norway.

  • Starting Strong 2017: Key OECD Indicators on Early Childhood Education and Care, OECD Publishing, 2017
Early childhood education and care (ECEC) can help lay the foundations for future skills development, well-being and learning. Having timely, reliable and comparable international information is essential to help countries improve their ECEC services and systems. For over 15 years, the OECD has been conducting policy analysis and gathering new data on ECEC. For the first time, this report brings together all the key ECEC indicators in one volume. It presents an exhaustive overview of ECEC systems and provision as well as trend data and information on recent reforms.
